SAT | Portland, Oregon: It’s a third anniversary for Heart Coffee Roasters. What does that look like? A lineup of dj’s scratching some serious sounds through some equally serious speakers, free coffee and what any human wants: FUN. Congratulations Heart! TIME: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. PDT

FRI – SUN | Manchester, TN: Because indie music and independent coffee house go together, right? I think so. San Diego’s Caffe Calabria is joining the indie-music-fest circuit via food outfit Spicy Pie which services festivals like Bonaroo. Now that they also carry Caffe Calabria seems like many will hear music, eat pizza and drink coffee all in one spot. Lets raise a cup to that! TIME Various, CDT

SAT | Manhattan, NY: It’s the weekend, so of course, you’ll be thinking coffee. But, drinking it is also part of the fun especially when its free. Think Coffee’s free cupping will feature beans from East to West. TIME 2 p.m. EST

Lets Celebrate

In just 24 hours, smdlr will celebrate its one year anniversary of being on Twitter. While we are happy, we want to focus on the the existence of independent coffee shops that make smdlr possible. So to celebrate our anniversary of being a voice among this independent coffee revolution we ask you to visit your local independent coffee shop this Tuesday and raise a cup. How?

Here’s the deets. Stop into your local spot; grab your regular – be it tea, chai, coffee etc. Look for the shops logo or name on the cup or sleeve. Raise your cup Up, snap a pic and then send it to us. You can upload via twitter and hash your tweet with #ilovesmdlr, #cupup. Or, email it to us at smdlr.cde@gmail.com. By the end of the week we’ll post a photo-slider of all you beautiful coffee shop lovers. Kinda’ awesome, right? We think so. Long live the indie coffee shop. – smdlr.

The Annex Coffee Shop in Fort Greene is now open.

One coffee at a time Tonx now has subscriptions. $35 a month gets you one shipment every two weeks.

Friday 9th : Queens, NY :9:00 – 11:30 p.m. Live jazz kicks off at Queens Kickshaw combining music, coffee, grilled cheese and other drinking things.

Sat&Sun: 10th and 11th Chicago : This city of behemoth indie coffee roasters is having a Renegade Craft Fair this weekend with coffee fueled by @caffestreets.

Sat P.M. 10th : Los Angeles : 7:30-midnight. In the land of La La Paper_or_Plastik is celebrating their one year anniversary with sangria, photography and Jazz.

Happy Monday! I’ll be having a coffee date, reading some coffee news, and having a coffee cup view from the beach. And, all while enjoying a customized smdlr playlist including that new James Blake and Bon Iver collaboration. Hope you’ll take out some time for coffee, music and culture too. sibling to the world

Have you ever been pulled by someone, without the use of their arms? Meet Jasmine.

She walked into the coffee shop and I couldn’t take my platonic eyes off her. I attempted to remain consumed with what was in front of me, but I was immediately uninterested. So, when she rose to leave, I was glad that she was just switching seats from an inside chair to the outside bench.

The Brooklyn local has heritage from around the world; as an only child her friends are her family. Of particular interest to her is how our generation is hungering to connect and have community.

While she isn’t in a rush to request, friend and like all whom she meets, I do feel comforted when our exchange ends. There’s a hug, and the old fashioned…here’s my number.
